What is the 2021 Murphy Walkabout?

Who: Murphy students from Pre-k – 8th grade

What: Walkabout is a week to focus on 3 things:

  1. Showing school spirit
  2. Getting fresh air and exercise
  3. Connecting with the community

Also, we want you to have FUN!

Check back here the week of 5/17 for ideas, games, and how to enter to win PRIZES!

When: Saturday, May 22 – Saturday, May 29

Where: You can go for a walk around the block, around your neighborhood, at a park, or even follow one of our suggested maps (coming soon)! Be sure to look for Owl Art in neighbors’ windows!

Why: We spend a lot of time on our screens and the community misses seeing Murphy Owls out & about! This year the Walkabout is an opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, talk with a friend or family member, wave hello to people, be creative, and show your Owl pride.

How: Use chalk to draw and write encouraging messages on the neighborhood sidewalks. Color or paint owl pictures and hang them in your windows that face the street. Supplies will be sent home (hybrid students) and available for pickup (remote students) week of 5/17. Go for one walk, a couple of walks, or walk every day! Have fun!

What about the PRIZES??? We thought you’d never ask! FOM is working hard to gather some cool gift cards and fun experiences to give out at the end of the Walkabout. Students and families are invited to upload pictures, videos, drawings, screenshots, etc. starting 5/22, and each upload will count as a separate entry! Entry instructions will be posted by 5/17. GRAND PRIZE WILL BE YOUR VERY OWN FIT BIT!

Go Murphy Owls, let’s go out and WALKABOUT!
