Who We Are

Murphy is an amazing school, thanks in part to the wonderful and generous support of our families and community. All parents, teachers, staff, and community members are considered Friends of Murphy, and we welcome and encourage your involvement!

What We Do

Our three main areas of funding focus are to:

  1. Enrich Murphy School’s arts  partnerships and programming
  2. Bolster school spirit through community connections
  3. Fund physical improvement projects at Murphy School.

When We Meet

Please join us at FOM meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM. Dates and meeting venues are listed on our calendar.  Here are the Meeting Minutes from our previous meetings.

What We Have Accomplished

Through our annual Walkathons, silent auctions, and several smaller initiatives, we raised over $30,000 per year for Murphy School over the past few years!

Thanks to the generosity and hard work of our parents, teachers, staff, students, and community members, FOM used those funds to:

  • Launch the “We Believe in Murphy School” lawn sign campaign
  • Install a traverse wall, all new custom wall padding, and refinish the floor in the Murphy gym
  • Supply walk-a-thon t-shirts for every student, staff member, and volunteer
  • Purchase sound and lighting equipment and upgrades in the auditorium.
  • Provide a comprehensive theater program for any interested 1st – 8th grade students free of charge.
  • Support members of our community with food and supplies during difficult times, and much more!

We did it together, and we couldn’t have done it without you!

What Comes Next

A special message from the FOM President:

Murphy School relies heavily on the donations and money raised through our fundraising efforts throughout each school year. Unfortunately, CPS has put fundraising restrictions on all schools for the 2020-2021 school year. Without our fundraising events, the needs of Murphy school students, staff, and the school building cannot be met.

We know that these are trying, stressful, unprecedented times. We also believe whole heartedly that what keeps us physically distant can’t stop us from uniting for our school and community. We are, and always will be, Murphy Strong. Now more than ever, Murphy School needs you! We need your support. We need your efforts. We need your donations.

It’s your dollar that helped provide each student a supply bag on the first day of school this year, and afforded a Murphy face mask for every student and faculty member. It’s your dollar that funded grocery & Target gift cards distributed to families in need, support for the Irving Park Food Pantry that many Murphy families rely on when times are tough, and a paid Spanish language translator to be at all parent/community meetings along with the headsets to make this service functional. It’s your dollar that provided a gym floor that hadn’t been refinished in 60 years, a traverse (climbing wall) and safety padding in the gym, and a new screen, lighting, sound, and projection system in our auditorium. It’s your dollar that provided free or significantly reduced after school arts programming that isn’t offered at other schools, and support for a community garden that so many enjoy. It’s your dollar that funded the odds and ends that are needed around the school like paint for walls, frames for photos of families, stationary for letters that need to be sent home to students, email service to allow Dr. Zelenka to send her weekly email to all families, stipends for support staff who work in the summer, and the list goes on and on.

It’s your dollar that we need to continue supporting Murphy School.

Since FOM won’t be holding our annual fundraisers this school year, we’re asking, if you are able, for your one time or monthly donation to help support the school we all know and love. Whether large or small, every little bit truly makes a difference Donate Here.
